St Patrick’s Day

We’re celebrating St Patrick’s Day in the salon today, some of us even have green clothing on! We haven’t gone as far as dying our hair green though…

Here are a few facts on St Patrick’s Day:

  • The day is named in honour of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland
  • It is believed St Patrick wasn’t from Ireland….but from Wales
  •  The first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in New York in the 1760s
  • In 2010, the Sydney Opera House went green to mark the 200th anniversary of St. Patrick’s Day there
  • Guiness sales soar on St. Patrick’s Day. Recent figures show that 5.5 million pints of the black stuff are downed around the world every day. On St. Patrick’s Day that figure is doubled!

Pop in today and make sure you look the part for St Patrick’s Day, whatever you’re up to!

Some interesting hair facts

Did you know……..

Our hair grows in four stages:

  • Anagen – the growth phase of the hair
  • Catagen – when the follicle thinks (this lasts a few days)
  • Telagen – when the hair doesn’t do anything!
  • Exogen – when the hair falls out

Any one person can lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day.

The average person has between 90,000 and 150,00 hairs on their head.

Hair is made up mostly of keratin, the same protein animals’ horns, hooves, claws, feathers, and beaks are made of.

The only thing about you that can’t be identified by your hair is your gender—men’s hair and women’s hair are identical in structure.

Red is the rarest hair colour and only exists in about 1% of the world’s population, with blonde hair found in 2%. Black is the most common.

You would need to lost 50% of your hair before you start to look bald.

80% of Americans wash their hair twice a day!

Did you know any of those facts?! And just so you know, we don’t recommend washing your hair twice a day!
